Cobb haulers report fewer complaints, more providers and ongoing registration enforcement

Cobb County officials received an update May 27 from the county Solid Waste division and the Haulers Association about residential garbage and recycling collection in unincorporated Cobb.
Dr. Gibson, director of Public Services, told the board the county has roughly 232,000 dwellings in unincorporated Cobb and 17 registered haulers as of May 21; renewal packets are distributed in mid‑November with registrations due by the end of January each year.
Brian Warren, president of the Haulers Association of Cobb County, reported that complaint activity submitted through the association’s cobtrashhelp.com portal has fallen: the association received five complaints at the same time last year but had received only one complaint to date for the current year, and that complaint was resolved the same day. Warren said the association has 10 member companies and that several new companies have begun residential service in ZIP codes that previously had limited options, increasing consumer choices for service.
Warren also said Waste Connections (which acquired American Disposal and has rebranded) reported its service‑center call volume has declined from about 1,000 calls per day to roughly 250 calls per day and that the company “hasn't had to cancel or had any missed routes in over seven months.” He credited expanded carrier participation and cooperation with county staff.
Dr. Gibson reminded the public that solid‑waste collectors operating in Cobb County must register with the county and that the business coordinator in the department handles new‑hauler packages and renewals. The presentation included a compact recycling pilot at the county building that the association and county are testing.
No motions or votes were taken; the presentation closed with commissioners and staff agreeing to continue enforcing registration requirements and to keep the cobtrashhelp.com complaint portal active, and with county staff continuing to publish updated ZIP‑code coverage lists and contact details for registered haulers.
