Board approves $907,583 budget increase for county road maintenance and summer projects

The Santa Fe County Board of County Commissioners approved a resolution (2025058) on May 27 to increase the road maintenance fund and road projects fund to support planned road work across the county.

County public works staff told commissioners the funds will be used first on chip seal and seal‑coat projects and then on mill‑and‑inlay work where roads have curb and gutter. "So our goal is... we'll do the seal coat projects initially first," said public works staff (Aaron), explaining the typical sequencing and the goal to complete in‑house Local Government Road Fund projects before the end of the paving season in early fall.

Commissioner Hank Hughes asked about timelines for projects in his district; public works staff replied that work is scheduled over the summer, materials and weather permitting. Commissioners also discussed Via Vista: residents had requested a speed hump study, and staff confirmed the county had reviewed traffic data and coordinated with fire officials. "So long answer is yes. Our goal is, as we do the paving project, to have those speed humps placed," Aaron said.

Commissioner Justin Green noted that Paseo Nepal was included on the list but had already been repaved under a different program; staff confirmed that some projects were advanced and that the list contains projects submitted during the prior LGRF cycle. The board voted to approve the budget increase and move forward with the listed projects.
