The Village of Jackson Board of Public Works voted May 27 to forward Resolution 25-18, declaring intent to exercise a special assessment for Hickory Lane improvements, to the village board.
Director of Public Works Jack told trustees the proposed assessment covers storm sewer lateral replacement and sidewalk construction. Notices to affected property owners have been prepared in draft but were not mailed because staff is awaiting a final number from the village’s consultant engineer. “The letters have not went out yet. They're all in draft form. We're waiting on 1 final number, from our consultant engineer to send those out with the hopes that they do go out this week,” Jack said.
Jack said most properties will be assessed for an additional one foot of sidewalk where four-foot sidewalk exists, but an apartment building with no existing sidewalk will be assessed for an entire five-foot section. “They're getting assessed at the entire 5 foot ratio,” he said.
Trustee Engelhardt moved to approve forwarding the resolution to the village board; Trustee Mitchell seconded and the board approved the motion by voice vote. No roll-call totals were recorded in the transcript.
Staff did not identify a schedule for mailing notices or a final assessment amount in the public portion of the meeting; those items are to be completed after consultant input.
