Public works reports Cleanup Days 2025 collected 644 tons of bulky waste

The Moorhead City Council heard a summary of Cleanup Days 2025 on May 27 from Public Works Director Paul Feuchner. Feuchner said the event ran 11 days (May 5–16, plus an extra day for the Oakport area) and that city crews and county partners collected about 644 tons of additional bulky waste from boulevards.
Feuchner also reported 46 tons of metal were collected for recycling and more than 350 appliances containing Freon were collected and disposed of properly. He said the operation relied on about 28 city employees supplemented by contracted laborers and 18 pieces of equipment. Feuchner noted weather was a factor — some days in the 90s and a rainy final day in Oakport — but said overall the effort was successful and staff were provided a pizza lunch on the second week to recognize the work.
The director emphasized coordination with Clay County at the Resource Recovery Center, which received increased loads during the event and supplied additional hauling capacity. Council member Denise Mayer later told the council that the Solid Waste Advisory Committee received a similar report and that the county is exploring possible solar fields on closed landfill cells.
Council members thanked staff for the operation’s scale and efficiency. The report contained no formal council action; staff said the city plans to hold Cleanup Days again next year.
