Board approves filling two entry-level juvenile worker positions in nonsecure unit

Clay County commissioners approved filling two open juvenile worker positions in the county’s nonsecure juvenile unit on May 27.
James (county staff) told the board the positions are budgeted and replacements for relatively new employees who are leaving; savings from the hires will be minimal aside from healthcare timing. He said the positions are entry-level, do not require a bachelor’s degree and county training is provided. Staff indicated 60 college credits or relevant life experience are typical hiring criteria and that there is no additional backfill required for these roles.
A motion to approve filling both positions was made and seconded and passed by voice vote. Staff will proceed with recruitment and onboarding under existing budgeted authority.
