The Alamogordo City Commission voted unanimously on May 27 to remove a prior condition limiting use of the parcel at 1115 Alaska Avenue to bank purposes. Staff said the property is owned by the Worship Center and the change is requested to clarify permitted uses for insurance and operational reasons.
City Planner Stella Veil presented the request and said staff recommends approval because removing the condition “will not be materially detrimental to surrounding property owners or the public.” She noted the parcel is behind the former Otero Federal Credit Union drive-through and has been owned by the Worship Center for about 15 years.
Commissioners disclosed potential conflicts on the record; one commissioner said he has a contract with the Worship Center and offered to abstain if others had objections. After disclosure, the commission proceeded; the motion to approve was made by Commissioner Warren Robinson and seconded by Commissioner Crystal Guthrie, and the vote was 7-0.
Staff said the change removes the bank-only limitation so the Worship Center may use the property for church-related purposes and for insurance purposes; staff did not list new uses but said the zoning and other code requirements still apply.
