Council approves first reading to allow patrons to bring wine to permitted special event facilities

The Roswell City Council on May 27 approved on first reading an amendment to Chapter 3 of the city code to allow patrons to bring wine into permitted special event facilities under specified conditions.
Council member Lee Hills described the item as support for a local entrepreneur opening a cooking school, saying: “This is a Roswell resident entrepreneur who is opening up a cooking school, Tate Spuds Kitchen, in the East Side and East Village, and is looking to have the opportunity to teach a class and then have the participants or patrons be able to bring a bottle of wine in so that they may enjoy that with the meal that they have prepared.”
City Attorney David Davidson read the ordinance language into the record; the item passed unanimously on a voice or roll call vote.
Council members said the measure is intended to enable small events and locally owned businesses to offer BYO (bring your own) wine options in regulated special event facilities, and that conditions and controls in the ordinance would limit where and how alcohol is brought in.
This was a first reading; the ordinance will return for a second reading before final adoption. Staff noted the changes are limited to special event facilities and do not alter other alcohol licensing requirements.
