District instructional staff presented the measure as a way to comply with state student-data rules and reduce the need to bring each vendor agreement to the board. “It was rules related to how districts share student information, what we are obligated to do, and have them in writing with those vendors when we share that information,” Morgan Bennett told the board while describing the state requirement and the proposed standard agreement.
Bennett said the standard, labeled “version 2,” was developed by Access 4 Learning (A4L), an industry group of education-technology and IT organizations, and that the updated form is meant to align with Florida compliance requirements. He told the board the district could “immediately piggyback off of” about 15 existing agreements with only “a few clicks,” reducing staff time and repeated board review.
A board member moved to approve the standard agreement and to allow district and school-based administrators to sign the agreements going forward; another board member seconded the motion. The board voted in favor and the motion carried.
The board did not direct staff to make changes to the standard agreement; Bennett said the form “is not intended to be modified” and described the efficiency benefits of adopting A4L’s version as the district implements vendor agreements that involve student data.
