The Corcoran City Parks and Trails Commission on May 15 approved the selection of D'Amour bench 98, picnic table 71 and a D'Amour bike rack (size 125 or 130) for the new City Park, voting by voice to adopt the commission's preferred models.
Commissioners and staff said the chosen bench — D'Amour bench 98 — was selected for its appearance and the middle armrest, which Chair Christiansen said "allows for extra arm rest and separation between visitors" and can discourage skateboard grinding. Commissioner Nybo noted the armrest could reduce seating capacity for some users but still favored the 98 model for other reasons. The commission also preferred picnic table 71 over table 72 for greater knee clearance, and agreed on a D'Amour bike rack in the larger available size to maximize capacity without overwhelming the site.
Commissioners discussed comfort and accessibility for shorter users, long-term maintenance (including paint chipping and powder-coating), and visual consistency with other park fixtures. A parks staff member said the bench and table choices are available through the state contract pricing and that the bike rack color and exact size could be confirmed with the vendor. The commission asked staff to reconfirm finish/color options and maintenance recommendations before ordering.
After limited discussion, a motion to approve Bench 98, Table 71 and the D'Amour bike rack (larger size) was made and seconded; the commission approved the motion by voice vote (recorded as "Aye"). The meeting record did not include a roll-call tally.
The commission’s choices will be incorporated into procurement documents when the City Park construction bid package is finalized. Staff noted benches will be bolted in place while picnic tables will remain movable to support park programming such as the garden club's events.
The selection was discussed as part of a broader City Park master project that staff are advancing through site plan, bidding and council authorization processes. Staff will return with final color/finish recommendations, installation specifications and any cost updates when bids are opened.
Details that remain to be confirmed include final color selection (black/metal finish was preferred by several commissioners), exact bike-rack size (125 or 130), and maintenance specifications for powder-coated finishes.
The commission adjourned after completing the furnishings vote and other business.
