Board approves one-year amendment with Chartwells for school food services

The Madison Board of Education approved Amendment No. 1 to the district’s food service contract with Public Schools USA Incorporated, operating as Chartwells, extending the agreement through the 2025–26 school year and adjusting several contract terms.
Art, the Chartwells representative, told the board the amendment includes a negotiated 3% increase in administrative and management fees. He said last year’s fixed administrative fee was about $95,000 and Chartwells’ variable fees were roughly $1.92 million; the contract’s operating-loss cap will change so Chartwells will begin contributing from its fees if losses exceed $85,000 for the year.
The amendment also adjusts base meal pricing: kindergarten through eighth-grade base meal prices will increase by $0.25, with high-school prices remaining within district averages. Board members discussed meal service logistics at the reconfigured elementary schools and expressed appreciation for improved staffing stability since Chartwells assumed management.
Motion and vote: The board moved and seconded the amendment and approved it in the meeting vote.
