The Public Safety Committee recommended that the City Council approve a resolution authorizing municipal employees to sell beer at City of Mayville parks for specified events.
Staff explained the measure is a workaround allowed by a state statute: municipalities may authorize employees to sell fermented malt beverages at events when a resolution is on file because the municipality cannot obtain a picnic license for itself. Staff said the Rock and Boom summer concert series and some softball events had requested city staff assistance selling beer to raise funds for equipment replacement.
Committee members asked about liability and attorney review. Staff said the resolution references state statute and that the city’s insurance and immunity clauses were considered; the committee agreed staff could request legal review and run the resolution to the council for final approval.
Motion: committee recorded a motion by Olson, second by Newman; the committee voted to recommend the resolution to council.
