At first reading, the Loveland City Council considered an ordinance to lower the speed limit on Butterworth Road from 45 mph to 35 mph within the city limits, citing denser neighborhoods and planned sidewalk connections.
Assistant City Manager Chris Winich described the history: large tracts annexed between the mid-1990s and 2007 created three subdivisions (Brandywine, Butterworth Glen, Chimney Ridge) with roughly 352 homes accessing Butterworth. Staff and the police department reviewed the corridor and recommended reducing the posted speed to improve pedestrian safety and to align speeds with planned sidewalk projects along State Route 48 and Butterworth.
Councilmember Goodyear, who said he lives in Brandywine, supported the change and asked whether the city could seek an additional traffic study from the Ohio Department of Transportation to possibly extend the 35-mph zone farther east to match adjacent segments. Winich said staff would review the prior study and pursue ODOT coordination if appropriate. The item was introduced as a first reading only; no final ordinance vote was taken at the meeting.
