The Loveland City Council voted unanimously to award the city’s road salt contract for the 2025–26 winter season to the low bidder and to authorize purchases under that contract with a requirement the city purchase at least 80% of the bid quantity.
Director of Public Works (presentation in packet) and City Manager Dave Kennedy said the city solicited bids for up to 1,000 tons of salt and received two responses; the low bid in the packet was from Compass. Kennedy told council that last season the city used roughly 680 tons, with most usage concentrated in a single January storm. He said because the city must contract for at least 80% of the bid quantity, the majority of the salt will be delivered as dumped product rather than piled.
Councilmembers noted the unusually heavy snow event this past winter and commended staff for prudent procurement planning. A lighthearted interlude included a short poem about a salt pile, read during discussion.
The resolution authorizing the city manager to contract with Compass for road salt was adopted by roll call vote, 7 to 0.
