Mayor Dylan Rumrell used the City of St. Augustine Beach’s "Monday with the Mayor" address to recognize local veterans and honor families of those who died in military service.
"Here in the city of Saint Augustine Beach, we make it a point to honor our veterans," Mayor Dylan Rumrell said during the brief memorial address. "And so thank you. Hope everybody had a very safe and blessed Memorial Day weekend."
Mr. Rumrell introduced three veterans who attended the event and invited them to speak about their service. Brian Law, building official for the City of St. Augustine Beach, said, "I spent 6 years in the Navy in the submarine force operating nuclear power on an Ohio class submarine."
T.G. Harold, assistant chief of police for the St. Augustine Beach Police Department, described his military background: "I was active duty air force for about 5 years and went in the army national guard for about 4 years."
Gil Timmons said he served in the United States Coast Guard and described his rating and current city role: "I was in the United States Coast Guard. I was a boatswain's mate for 6 years. Currently, I'm with the city in the planning and zoning department."
The mayor closed by thanking veterans and their families and noting the next weekly edition: "We'll see you next Monday with another edition of Monday with the mayor."
