Lincoln council to consider four-year renewal with Crawford, Murphy & Tilley; curb-and-sidewalk program on agenda

City staff asked the Lincoln Committee of the Whole on May 27 to place a four-year renewal of the city's engineering services contract with Crawford, Murphy & Tilley (CMT) on the regular agenda and to approve a work order for the 2025–2026 curb and sidewalk program.
The request would extend the current contract so it runs concurrent with the mayor's term, covering design engineering, construction engineering and bid/letting services for street and sidewalk projects. City staff described a cooperative relationship with CMT and recommended a four-year agreement running from 05/01/2025 to 04/30/2029 as presented to the council.
A CMT representative described the firm as a long-term partner. "We're really here just to try to help you guys in any way that we can... our job is is really to try to make your lives easier, to get good projects, and to make sure that you're getting the best value for your money," the company's group manager said during the meeting. Alderman Bateman and other council members praised CMT's responsiveness and work on past sewer and road projects.
Council members placed both the contract extension and the curb-and-sidewalk work order on the regular agenda for a future voting meeting. The curb-and-sidewalk item was described as covering both design and construction engineering and the letting/contractual work needed to hire contractors for the 2025–2026 program.
The staff presentation noted the city is already operating under a contract that contains auto‑renewal language but that previous approvals included date stipulations; the formal renewal is being returned to council for explicit authorization. No final vote or contract execution took place at the committee meeting; both items were set for the next regular meeting agenda.
