A Caset Elementary parent told the La Grange SD 102 Board of Education that a lunchroom supervisor publicly reprimanded her fourth-grade son in April and that the family has not received follow-up from the school.
Jill Conley, who said she serves on the PTC executive board and volunteers in the school, described the April 25 incident: she said a lunchroom supervisor, identified by Conley as a teacher at Caset, “screamed directly in his face for over 10 minutes, pointed her finger in his face, shoved a milk carton towards him, and accused him of stealing a 75¢ container of milk.” Conley said other staff members reportedly looked on without intervening and she cited two witnesses who described the outburst as “unhinged, unwarranted, and abusive.”
Conley said she and her husband followed the district’s reporting procedures and provided information to the school, but “to date, we have not received any communication from the school about how the situation was handled or addressed, or what steps, if any, have been taken.” Conley added that she has heard the teacher is scheduled to be a full-time sixth-grade teacher next year and said that raises questions about whether discipline matched the seriousness of the conduct.
“No child deserves to be publicly humiliated by an adult in a position of authority,” Conley said.
Why it matters: The account raises concerns about staff conduct, student safety and the transparency of the school’s response process. The family said they used the district’s reporting channels and asked the board for clarity about any investigation and corrective actions.
Board staff did not provide a detailed update during the meeting on the specific personnel investigation or discipline; personnel matters commonly are handled confidentially under personnel and student-privacy rules. The parent said she wants assurance that the district has addressed the incident appropriately.
