She asked staff to coordinate with County officials and with county-level contacts who are addressing lifeguard staffing. City Manager Joyce Shanahan and Deputy Mayor Tolland said staff will work with County Emergency Management and local stakeholders to request additional coverage.
The commission did not adopt a new ordinance or appropriate funds at the meeting; the direction was a staff request to pursue county assistance and coordination. City staff and the deputy mayor said they will coordinate messaging and outreach, and the deputy mayor noted parallel efforts by county officials to address lifeguard shortages countywide.
No vote was required for the request; commissioners indicated general agreement and staff acknowledged they will pursue the letter and report back on results.
