The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors on May 21 approved payment of $537,051 to cover the county’s share of the Wash Bridge replacement project on Walnut Grove Road.
Public Works Director Roger McCormick said the bridge was inspected by ADOT and deemed structurally deficient — posted with a 15‑ton weight limit — and that the replacement will remove the posting and provide two‑way traffic. “This 1… when it was inspected and why it qualified for the funding is it is structurally deficient. Not meaning that it's not safe to drive over but it is posted with a weight limit of 15 tons,” McCormick said.
Nut graf: The project is funded through ADOT’s off‑system bridge program; county staff told the board the total construction cost estimate rose from about $900,000 to roughly $1.2 million since preliminary estimates, and the board approved $537,051 to move the project to bid and construction.
McCormick said the bridge is located about eight miles down Walnut Grove Road where the roadway feeds into the Hassayampa River area and that the project will widen the crossing to allow two-way traffic and eliminate the weight posting. The bridge is in District 1 and was selected for ADOT off‑system bridge funding. The county’s original match estimate was just over $200,000; increased construction costs required the higher appropriation now before the board.
Supervisors approved the payment unanimously. The project will move to bid and construction under Public Works oversight.
