Williams County Auditor Beth Nynas told the Board of County Commissioners on May 20 that the state commissioner's office had sent a contract for the county to administer local sales, use and gross taxes for the 2025–27 biennium.
Nynas said the document contains legacy language from the county’s original agreement and needs corrections. She asked the board for approval to sign the contract once county staff (Karen) obtains corrected documentation from the state. "I have 3 things for you this morning. I received the contract from the state commissioner's office to administer our local sales use and gross taxes, for the 2025 by 2527 biennium," Nynas said, and explained that Karen would contact the state to correct the document.
The board moved, seconded and approved authorization for the auditor to sign the corrected contract; roll call votes were recorded in the affirmative. The auditor characterized this as a routine renewal tied to the county’s existing sales and use tax administration.
Why it matters: The contract designates who administers and remits locally collected sales, use and gross taxes for the county and ensures continued collection and disbursement under the 2025–27 biennium schedule.
Clarifications recorded at the meeting: Nynas said the original renewal materials used older language tied to when the county first implemented its sales and use tax and noted the renewal was a resolution rather than an ordinance; county staff will request corrected paperwork before she executes the contract.
What’s next: County staff will work with the state to correct the contract language and the auditor is authorized to sign the corrected document on the county’s behalf.
