The Birmingham Public Schools Board voted to support the Oakland Intermediate School District’s proposed budget for the next fiscal year after district finance staff and trustees reviewed the ISD’s revenue and expenditure assumptions.
Board discussion noted the ISD budget projects an approximate $900,000 excess of revenues over expenditures for the coming fiscal year, and that the ISD plans initiatives including an AI task‑force investment, business‑office residency work and continued human resources residency programming.
Trustee Kevin (presenter) and finance committee members summarized the key assumptions—property tax revenue, program continuation and one‑time investments—during a study session and the board’s finance meeting. Trustees said they view Oakland Schools as a regional service provider that supports many districts, including those with fewer resources.
Trustee Tijani moved to approve Resolution 80 and Trustee Eshloonie seconded; the board approved the resolution by a 6–0 vote. Staff said supporting the ISD budget is an annual governance step required by June 1.
Trustees thanked ISD staff and said the district will continue to monitor ISD initiatives and funding assumptions as the budget moves forward.
