District reports literacy gains; third grade shows largest DIBELS improvement

Mr. Theriault told the board the district provided both DIBELS (literacy) and i‑Ready (math) data for beginning, middle and end of year. He said DIBELS in particular showed "some really big growth" across grades and highlighted a "20% increase" for third grade from last year to this year. Theriault said i‑Ready results were weaker in comparison but showed growth during a first-year implementation of the Eureka Squared math curriculum.
Theriault credited concentrated intervention efforts, district supports, supervisors and lead teachers for the literacy gains. He said interventions were prioritized to reduce the risk of retention under a state law "that goes into effect this year," and emphasized the district's focus on literacy because "if our children cannot read, they cannot do any other subject." He also recognized disruption from weather and staff turnover and thanked teachers and district support teams.
Board members and the superintendent praised staff for the results. No formal action was taken; the presentation served as an informational update to the board.
