South Terrebonne High School renovation progressing; district cites delays, aims for December contractual completion

"They've started framing up the replacement walls ... Windows were scheduled to start on the fifteenth and got pushed back just a little bit ... but they will be starting on Tuesday of next week," a facilities representative said. Electricians are installing lights, flooring contractors are replacing tile and preparing classroom floors, and painters have begun glazed‑block painting toward a uniform color.
The district said lightweight concrete work is complete across the facility and that AAR has continued pulling fire alarm cabling to control panels. Facilities staff noted that the ability to occupy certain athletic spaces depends on life‑safety systems: "It also depends upon AAR's ability to get monitoring in place for the life safety to include smoke and fire alarms," a staff member said. The representative stated the contractual completion date is Dec. 28, 2025, and that the district is targeting occupancy for the following school year. When asked whether the football team could use locker rooms for the upcoming season, staff said they would need to verify with the contractor.
Committee members suggested hosting a community open‑house around completion to allow alumni and residents to tour the renovated building. A committee member also raised preservation of historic transom glass panels removed from the building; staff confirmed the panels are stored and agreed to connect a volunteer restorer with district staff to refurbish and reinstall panels at the new school.
Committee members expressed frustration about schedule shifts and delays but also acknowledged substantial ongoing work; staff reiterated that critical path items related to life‑safety monitoring and utility transfers remain and could affect certain turn‑over dates.
