Committee approves highest bids for 10‑year hunting and trapping leases on Section 16 lands

The Terrebonne Parish Finance, Insurance and Section 16 Lands Committee recommended letting a set of hunting and trapping leases on Section 16 lands to the highest bidders who met specifications for a 10‑year term beginning July 1, 2025, and ending June 30, 2035.
Committee staff displayed U.S. Geological Survey maps and aerial photos to show the location of the Section 16 parcels under lease (areas south of Dulac, including Chaffee Bay, Four League Bay and Lost Lake/Lake DeCad). The packet lists the township/range numbers and the accepted prices for each leased section; staff told the committee that the purchasing department is authorized to readvertise sections where no bids were received or where leases were surrendered.
The committee authorized the superintendent or board president to sign lease documents on behalf of the board. Committee members had no substantive objections and the recommendation was forwarded to the full board for final approval.
The committee noted that maps of Section 16 lands are limited on modern base maps and staff used historic USGS maps and aerials to identify parcel boundaries. The committee accepted staff’s recommendation to proceed with award to the highest bidders meeting specifications and to allow re‑advertisement where necessary.
