EDC says Angio retention averts larger job loss; Queensbury partnership, craft beverage growth noted

An Economic Development representative told the Warren County Economic Growth and Development Committee on May 22 that Angio — a long-standing local employer — would continue operations in the area and retain about 150 employees, creating a substantial local economic effect.
"There is no commitment for how long they will be here, but there is also no plan for them to leave," the EDC representative said. The office estimated the company's payroll at nearly $10,000,000 and described a broader economic impact of roughly $20,000,000 when multiplier effects are included.
The EDC representative described Angio as a legacy employer undergoing business model changes, noting that some legacy product lines have passed through their intellectual-property phase. The continued local presence, the representative said, reduced what had been a near-term prospect of large job losses and represents a retention success for county and town partners.
Staff also updated the committee on the EDC's evolving service agreement with the town of Queensbury. The EDC representative said a multi-year agreement now defines a renewed scope and a lower dollar figure than historical levels; under the new agreement the EDC is providing services targeted to Queensbury's current priorities, including advocacy, planning support and assistance with infrastructure projects such as Route 9 corridor work.
Economic-development staff reported renewed interest in the Queensbury Business Park (county and EDC-owned real estate across from the airport) and a lot sale that is under development. The committee was told F.W. Webb's Corinth Road site is advancing through site-plan review and is expected to create roughly 30 jobs, including relocations from existing local operations.
The EDC representative also summarized craft beverage industry data shared with the board: the local craft beverage sector (breweries, distilleries, wineries) supports jobs and community gathering points. The representative said Empire State Development statistics showed "more than $20,000,000 and 102 jobs" attributed to the local craft beverage industry.
Discussion vs. action: the committee received the report; no formal vote was taken on these economic-retention matters at the May 22 meeting.
