Human Services Coalition reports larger pool of funding applicants and launches county transportation support work

The Human Services Coalition told the committee that a larger and more diverse set of community organizations applied for county community-agency funding this year and that the coalition is working with the county to expand transportation assistance through a one-call/one-click center.
John, speaking for the Human Services Coalition in Cindy's absence, said 40 organizations initially expressed interest and 31 submitted full applications—about 10 more than last year—and that 10 applicants were first-time applicants. He said the coalition has a dedicated review committee of nine members and will conduct interviews and review meetings over the next three weeks to produce funding recommendations for the county budget process. "We had about 40 organizations that expressed interest to HSC and we had a total of 31 organizations that applied, which is up about a quarter from last year, including 10 first time applicants," John said.
On transportation, John said HSC is partnering with Tompkins County planning and other local partners to build a one-call/one-click center and to expand volunteer-driver capacity. The county will help recruit volunteers and coordinate providers; two new 2-1-1 staff will specialize in transportation support, John said. The service will assist trip planning, access to discounted or free TCAT passes and provide extended local coverage into early evening. "We've been working really closely with Frank Doldo and Courtney Horner at the county plus various other partners including Go Ithaca transportation providers," he said.
John said the initiative will include outreach to community hubs and organizations and will aim to coordinate volunteer drivers and funded services so rides can be delivered more efficiently. The coalition will provide its recommendations to the county this month as part of the 2026 funding review and called out a June timeline for recommendations to be forwarded to county budget staff.
Committee members welcomed the work and asked procedural questions about the review schedule and county budget guidance. John said the coalition will submit recommendations in mid-June and continue outreach to local partners to build transportation capacity.
