County Youth Bureau circulates new report with six recommendations on homelessness for 18–25-year-olds

County Youth Bureau staff presented a recently completed report and recommendation packet focused on young adults aged 18 to 25 who are experiencing homelessness without children and asked the committee to consider the findings when planning shelters and services.
Kate, from the County Youth Bureau, said the report was prepared by Rick Albert, the bureau’s runaway and homeless youth coordinator, and includes an executive summary, a one-page recommendations sheet with six local recommendations, and links to best-practice sources and data. "This is a report that Rick Albert from our department put together," Kate said, and she told committee members the packet includes links to HUD, the National Network for Youth and other resources.
The report is intended to support planning for shelter design and services that are tailored to the 18–25 cohort, Kate said, noting that different program rules and funding streams apply to under-18 youth versus adults and that early interventions can reduce longer-term homelessness. The bureau also said it will share the report with committee members and continue developing outreach, including a proposed youth-summit–style event.
Committee members acknowledged receipt and said they would circulate the materials to colleagues. The Youth Bureau said the packet and one-pager will be accessible via email and that staff will coordinate a follow-up meeting with legislators to discuss recommendations and next steps.
