Chippewa Valley students collect medals at regional and state Science Olympiad competitions

The board recognized Science Olympiad teams districtwide after a season of regional and state competition. Christina Fleming, district Science Olympiad coordinator, summarized results and led a staged recognition of students from multiple schools.

Highlights Fleming cited include: Dakota High School finished third in the regional competition and brought home 20 event medals; Chippewa Valley High School finished fifth regionally and won 13 event medals; at the middle-school level, Seneca placed third regionally (18 medals) and advanced to state, Algonquin placed fifth (20 medals) and advanced, and Iroquois placed seventh (15 medals) and advanced; Wyandotte earned medals in all six events it entered. At the state tournament, Dakota and Chippewa Valley competed against statewide fields. Elementary results included first-place Shawnee in the district tournament and multiple top-nine finishes countywide; districtwide the elementary program secured 74 top-nine event medals.
The board presented trophies and Dairy Queen gift cards to students during the meeting and praised coaches, volunteers and parents who supported the teams. Superintendent Roberts and board members thanked students and coaches for their effort and community engagement.
