Board approves two principal appointments effective July 1

The Horry County Schools Board of Trustees approved two principal appointments during its business session: Ashley Arthur to serve as principal of Daisy Elementary and Mr. Retreus to serve as principal of Ocean Drive Elementary, both effective July 1, 2025.
Superintendent David Jones presented the personnel recommendations after conducting interviews for two principal vacancies and recommended the board amend personnel to appoint the candidates named. "My first recommendation is that Miss Ashley Arthur to serve as the principal for Daisy Elementary, effective 07/01/2025," Jones said.
Board members moved, seconded and voted using the district’s voting machines. The superintendent said the initial principal vote "looks unanimous to me." The board then moved forward to approve the second principal appointment for Ocean Drive Elementary and completed the required votes.
The actions were taken as part of the board’s formal personnel recommendations; the board did not provide additional detail about the selection process or the finalists at the public meeting beyond noting interviews had been conducted.
