Two Horry County elementary schools nearing completion; final inspections set in June

Two Horry County elementary school projects are moving toward completion, and staff told the Facilities Committee they expect final inspections in mid and late June.
Pine Island Elementary is scheduled for a final inspection on June 12, and 10 Oaks Elementary is scheduled for a final inspection on June 26, Facilities staff told the committee. Both projects are completing interior finishes, site work and playground installation as part of the county’s “building on the penny” capital program.
The updates matter because both schools are part of the district’s capital program and will begin operations only after final inspections. Facilities staff listed remaining work at both sites—cabinetry, flooring, ceiling tiles, playground equipment, restroom finishes, HVAC startups and off-site road and pavement work—and said the items are routine steps toward occupancy.
Facilities staff said contractors remain on site installing cabinetry, flooring and ceiling tiles, finishing kitchen and restroom fixtures, and completing off-site road improvements and paving. The staff presentation also listed upcoming work including bathroom accessories, courtyard turf, irrigation and landscaping.
When asked about budget status, Facilities staff said, “We are still under budget.” The committee did not take formal action on these items; the update was informational.
The district noted these schools were built under the penny sales-tax capital program and that staff would provide images and site-specific details to the board. No changes to project schedules or additional funding requests were presented at the meeting.
