Parks Department updates presented to the Board of Commissioners on May 22 included storm‑damage cleanup at Love Creek, playground and entrance improvements at Silver Beach, and upcoming recycling events.
Jill Adams, speaking to the committee earlier in the morning, reported a busy period for parks following storm damage and noted coordination with the road department to address fallen trees at Love Creek. Adams said playground equipment at Silver Beach has been installed and is awaiting final inspection; additional entrance lane work and fencing removal are underway. Some concession stand improvements and other equipment‑dependent projects will not be completed until late summer due to lead times for parts.
Adams also briefed commissioners on recycling and household hazardous‑waste events: a household chemicals and electronics collection is scheduled for June 3, and a pesticide collection event is planned for June 18. The parks committee also reviewed use of senior millage funds and identified data adjustments to better track how funds are distributed to area senior centers.
Commissioners thanked parks staff and volunteers for cleanup and maintenance work. No formal votes were taken on capital projects during the meeting; items noted were updates and scheduled events requiring ongoing staff work and inspections.
