Residents raised concerns about maintenance and vegetation at a local waterfront park (discussed as Brigantine/Barnigan Bay area) during the public-comment period. Township staff and committee members reported that permit requirements had lapsed and that a plan is in place to address invasive species, replant flower beds and resume consistent mowing.
Staff said they will mark invasive plants for removal with assistance from a Barnagan/Barnigan Bay Partnership representative, perform in-house removal rather than contract out, and order plants for the flower beds. The turtle garden will be removed and reseeded with grass, and residents who wish to salvage plants were allowed to remove saved plants for private property.
The committee said mowing frequency will be adjusted: the lawn height will be left a bit higher to discourage geese, and mowing at the park will occur on a roughly seven- to 10-day cycle during the summer rather than the more frequent schedule used on active athletic fields. Committee members said the change is intended to reduce geese traffic and lower maintenance. Staff said they will walk the site, mark species and proceed with the in-house plan over the next one to two weeks.
