At the School District No. Re-3 Fort Morgan meeting, parents and a student urged the board to add middle-school soccer for seventh- and eighth-graders.
A speaker identifying himself as Marco asked, “why you guys don't have the soccer…on the middle school. They’re in grade 7 and 8,” and argued that adding soccer would give students more athletic options and help keep them active. “If you guys consider, have soccer, [it] can help,” Marco said. He suggested the district could reuse existing meet allocations so the program would not require large additional spending and said local parents could help with coaching.
Another parent noted that current neighboring districts often do not offer middle-school soccer, and that Fort Morgan taking a first step could prompt surrounding districts to follow. Several speakers said soccer could increase student participation and generate concession revenue to help pay coaches.
Board President referred the commenters to an administrator (Mr. Sanders) for follow-up and encouraged parents to continue the conversation. The board did not take formal action during the meeting on adding middle-school soccer; the remarks were made during public comment and were recorded for staff follow-up.
