Counselors briefed the School District No. Re-3 Fort Morgan Board of Education on an April career-exploration event that drew substantial community participation and student engagement.
A district counselor reported the event included kindergarten through eighth-grade activities, mock interviews, career research for upper elementary students, and booths run by community partners. “We had 24 community partners there,” the counselor said, and described a Chromebook-based online check-in that helped capture attendance figures.
The presenter reported 367 total attendees and 240 students. “In years past, we had around a 20 students,” the presenter said, noting the electronic check-in provided clearer counts. The presenter said community partners ranged from realtors to a food truck vendor and that some partners provided hands-on items such as “little hard hats” that engaged children across ages.
Organizers used bingo cards at check-in to encourage student participation and offered prize drawings. The presenter said anecdotal feedback from community partners rated the event positively and that the indoor setup—chosen after uncertain weather—worked well for most participants.
Board members did not take formal action on the report; counselors framed the item as an informational summary and as an example of community-school partnership work that the district will continue to develop.
