The Friendswood City Planning & Zoning Commission on May 22 confirmed membership of two standing subcommittees and said grant funding will increase the planning subcommittee's workload on the comprehensive plan.
"We have 2 standing subcommittees within the commission," planning staff Becky told the commission. "We have the planning subcommittee that kind of focuses on comprehensive plan, future land use map. I think you guys are good. You're probably gonna start getting utilized a little more now that, we've got some grant money to work on that comp plan so that is Travis, Brian and Marcus and then the ordinance subcommittee is revision of subdivision ordinance zoning ordinance and we also kind of look at parking and signs, things like that, but that is Willie and Marsha, and then Stacy Phillips is gonna fill in the open position."
Becky presented the assignments as informational; the commission did not record a formal vote on the staffing assignments in the transcript. She also said the April 2025 DRC report was in the meeting packet and invited questions but did not highlight additional items from that report.
The planning subcommittee will focus on the comprehensive plan and the future land-use map; the ordinance subcommittee will handle revisions to the subdivision and zoning ordinances and related matters such as parking and signs. The transcript indicates the commission expects to begin scheduling subcommittee meetings in the near term as that grant-funded work begins. The amount and source of the grant were not specified in the transcript.
