The Jennings County School Corporation board on June 20 approved multiple professional and support-staff recommendations, including summer-school teachers, paraprofessionals, custodial and technology support, coaches and several terminations.
The board approved the recommendation to hire Anne Clarkson and Roger Williams as Northburn and North Vernon elementary summer-school teachers; Travis Reitzman as Jennings County High School impact alternative education teacher and boys varsity basketball coach; and multiple support staff for summer positions and school-year appointments. The board also approved contract extensions and coaching hires, including a girls basketball contract extension for Christie Sigler through 2026–27.
Board members moved and seconded the motions, and all personnel items listed in the meeting were approved by unanimous voice vote (7–0).
During the Reitzman approval, a board member who noted long community ties said, “I’ve been here 55 years, and this is home,” and the board then congratulated the new hires.
District staff also told the board that when certified candidates are unavailable an emergency permit may be issued by the Indiana Department of Education; the presentation noted that as of May 2025, 13 certified staff were on emergency permits out of 291 certified employees.
No individual employment terms beyond the positions and contract-extension dates were discussed at the meeting. Approvals were recorded by motion, and the board directed human-resources staff to complete hiring requirements and background checks as needed before the hires take effect.
