The Board of Trustees approved a number of routine administrative items at its May meeting, including bills and payroll, seasonal permits, personnel postings and settlement payments.
Trustees approved a one‑season permit for an ice‑cream truck to operate on village streets from May 22 through Nov. 30 between noon and 8:30 p.m. or dusk, whichever is earlier; the permit was granted to Craig Zoli, a franchisor of Mr. Softee ice cream. The motion to approve was moved by Trustee Casado and seconded by Deputy Mayor Sartorius and carried unanimously.
The board also adopted the village’s standard workdays and reporting requirements for certain elected and appointed officials, a state annual requirement, and authorized the Clerk of the Justice Court to attend the New York State Association of Magistrates Court Clerks annual training conference Sept. 28–Oct. 1, 2025, in Albany.
On personnel and operations, trustees authorized entering into hourly security services contracts to provide security at the John S. Devanzo pool, Wilson Park and Memorial Park starting with the pool season (officials said pool opening is scheduled in the coming weeks). Funding sources cited in the discussion included the pool fund and the general fund unreserved balances for fiscal 2025–26. Trustees also approved posting two positions in the Department of Public Works sanitation division — a labor supervisor and a laborer — to bring staffing to previously held levels.
Village counsel or staff (Mr. Gibbons) presented a resolution to approve payment for 16 settled 2024–25 tax certiorari cases; the board approved the payments and staff said the settlement chart will be available in the clerk’s office for public review.
Trustees acknowledged Elizabeth Bernard, the court clerk, who was recognized by the Nassau County Magistrates Association as Court Clerk of the Year and will be honored June 5. The board also closed the work session and moved into the public meeting without further substantive changes to the items described.
All motions referenced in these items were moved and seconded and carried, as recorded in the meeting minutes.
