District staff and program leads presented the district’s year‑end Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) highlights for the first year of Proposition 28 funding.
A video shown to the board summarized activities ranging from integrated classroom lesson plans and artist visits to field trips and upgraded equipment. Staff said Prop 28 funds supported lesson resources, stage lighting and sound, new instruments such as ukuleles, and supply kits for classroom art integration.
The report highlighted in‑school projects (owl pellet dissections for first graders, fake‑cake projects inspired by Wayne Thiebaud, student multimedia public service announcements), after‑school clubs (guitar, dance and theater), and multiple field trips to local museums and live theater productions. Staff emphasized professional development for teachers and take‑away resources to help classroom integration.
Speakers credited partnerships with Galt High School media classes and community organizations and sought board approval to submit the annual report to the California Department of Education as required by Prop 28 guidance. Trustees commended the programming and attendance at events and approved the item by roll call (motion passed 4–0).
The district said future plans include expanding family art nights, integrating art into school gardens and building campus VAPA centers to broaden access.
