New Philadelphia High School conferred diplomas on its Class of 2025 at a commencement ceremony on the school football field, school leaders said. Superintendent Amy Wentworth presented graduates after the board and administration recognized candidates as having completed requirements set by state and local authorities.
The superintendent told those gathered: "Therefore, in accordance with the laws of the state of Ohio, I recommend that each graduate presented with a diploma by the Board of Education as evidence of their accomplishments," a statement read as rows of candidates stood and came forward to receive diplomas. Principal Ryan Range then instructed the graduating class to "move your tassels from the right to the left" to signify their new status as graduates.
Student speakers emphasized gratitude and encouragement. Cadence Beitzel, class president, urged peers to take opportunities and offered a refrain from a song: "I hope you dance." Isabella Mae Caput, National Honor Society president, told attendees, "We did it. The day we have all been waiting for is finally here," and thanked educators and family members for their support.
The ceremony included the formal reading of graduate names, presentations by school and board leaders, and traditional closing remarks. Board President Denver Gallantyne and other members of the New Philadelphia Board of Education were on the field as part of the diploma conferral. The proceedings followed the diploma requirements established by the Ohio Department of Education and by the New Philadelphia Board of Education, as stated by the superintendent.
The program concluded with the tassel-turning and school officials' congratulations to the graduates and their families. The ceremony record lists the candidates by name during the diploma presentation; the reading of names served as the formal recognition of completion rather than a board vote or other action requiring a recorded decision.
