The EDA heard a written request from the Twin County Airport Commission asking Grayson County to provide $30,000 toward a hangar construction project that officials say would help the airport qualify for a federal FAA grant match to build four larger hangars.
An airport letter read at the meeting said project bids came back at about $871,000 for two larger hangars and approximately $1,000,005.67 for all four units; engineering costs of $87,350 were cited separately. The airport commission described the project as a way to attract corporate aircraft and aviation‑related businesses and asked the EDA to help the local match for FAA funds.
Board members pressed for data showing how the airport benefits Grayson County — who uses the airport, frequency of use and demonstrated local economic impacts — before approving additional county funding. One member said the county had not received sufficient data last year when an earlier request was considered and that the Board of Supervisors had declined an additional request previously because of lack of data.
Staff said they would contact airport representatives (Tom Jones and Michael Lawson were listed as contacts in the airport letter) to obtain usage statistics and other information and would follow up with the EDA and with the Board of Supervisors. No funding decision was made at the meeting.
