Council Rock reports rising registrations and screening plan for full-day kindergarten

Council Rock School District leaders told the education committee on May 22 that full-day kindergarten planning is proceeding and that registrations are trending above last year as the district prepares screening dates to help principals balance classes for fall.
District staff described a May outreach evening attended by a large number of community members; presentation materials and a recorded video from that event were posted on the district website, officials said. Andrea Mengele, director of district communications, and other staff coordinated posting of slides, the embedded video and resources for families.
As of the committee meeting, the district reported 529 confirmed kindergarten registrations and 39 additional applications "being processed," for an expected near-term total of 568 confirmed students. The district said it based its five-year planning projection on a cohort of about 709 current first graders and that its staffing and budget planning used that longer trend.
The district has scheduled kindergarten screening days at each school to provide principals with information to balance classes; participation is optional but staff said the data help schools create balanced sections. The district will offer makeup screening dates in August and will send summer readiness resources to families who cannot attend. Officials said they will review the screening process after early June and share findings and examples of how principals used the screening data to balance sections.
District leaders said final section counts are closed on June 1 for planning purposes; the district expected to update the board with section counts the week of June 2–3 and to continue registration and screening work over the summer.
"As of today, we have 529 kindergartners registered for the 2025–26 school year," a district presenter said, and staff asked families to consult the district website for screening appointments and resources.
