At a Fillmore Planning Commission meeting, city planning staff delivered a training on the city’s general plan and the process the city will use to update it after the City Council funded initiation of the update in its recently adopted budget. The training, led by city planning staff member Brian, explained that the general plan is required under state law and that the land use element lays out the city’s land use map and implementing goals, policies and implementation measures. "It establishes a vision for the city," Brian said, quoting the current plan's vision to "foster a thriving small‑town atmosphere in which civic pride, personal well‑being, and a balanced economy are nurtured and protected." Kevin, another city staff member, added that the council has budgeted funds to begin the update and that the process will include a General Plan Advisory Committee composed of two planning commissioners, two council members, staff and public members.
