Resident raises timeline and developer concerns as RDC nears June 30 solar project deadline

A Michigan City resident used public comment at the May 22 Redevelopment Commission meeting to press officials on a long-running Franklin Street closure and to raise concerns about the developer on the Sola solar project, which the commission has set a June 30 deadline to finalize.
"It feels like we're pushing 2 months at this point," resident Scott Nolan said of the Franklin Street closure and added concerns about the contractor and progress: "As excited as we all are for the the potential of our solar development...given their clear, distractions and the obvious lack of progress at the site that is fast approaching some very hard deadlines, within less than 30 days. We need to see some action..." Nolan also referenced news reports and litigation he said involved the developer.
City Engineer Tim Warner responded during public comment that Franklin Street had been patched and barricades were being moved, adding, "Now it'll be open in the morning." The commission's staff later told the commission and the public that the RDC had set a hard deadline of June 30 for the solar project's financial commitments; staff said the RDC and the developer meet weekly.
No contractual action on the solar project was taken at the May 22 meeting. The comments and staff updates recorded the resident's request for more visible progress and the staff clarification that the city planned to reopen Franklin Street and that the RDC's internal deadline remained June 30.
