City staff and festival organizers reported that this year’s St. George Art Festival drew about 9,000 visitors on Friday and 21,000 on Saturday — roughly 30,000 total for the event — making it the largest festival the city has hosted to date.

Festival organizers told the council the event hosted 92 artists, 35 food trucks and about 40 performances across three stages, and included a 250-runner race and more than 1,000 free kids’ art projects distributed during the event. Organizers described the festival as “something for everyone” and a barrier-free showcase of arts for the community.

The St. George Art Museum announced an acquisition for its permanent collection: “Together,” a large-scale silk mosaic by Prince Duncan Williams, a Ghana-born artist known for hand-laid, dyed thread mosaics that can take more than 300 hours to complete. Organizers noted Williams’s work has been exhibited nationally, including at the Smithsonian.

Council members thanked the organizers and noted the festival’s role in community unification and economic activity for local artists.
