Superintendent O'Shea told the Cohoes City School District Board of Education on May 21 that administrators and staff have developed an implementation plan for a phone‑pouch program, with training and parent outreach planned before the next school year.
O'Shea said she had spoken with a contact named Alden, who will help with presentations intended to address emergency‑use concerns, and that staff members Laura and Heather have completed preliminary training. The superintendent said there is a “fully crafted plan” that includes joint middle‑ and high‑school staff training on opening day, initial distribution during the first two days of school and full implementation on Sept. 7. “The next step after our meeting in June would be to send the letter and then have the presentations,” she said.
Board members asked staff to provide a timeline showing communication to parents, stakeholder meetings and dates from June through the start of school; O'Shea said that timeline will be on the June agenda after the district meets with school‑level leaders and public‑safety contacts.
No policy vote occurred at the meeting; staff said they will return with the timeline and communications plan.
