Brazosport ISD trustees approved a renewal of the memorandum of understanding with Brazosport College to continue dual-credit educational services and adult education and literacy programs.
The MOU renewal matters because the dual-credit partnership allows high school students to earn college credit and supports adult education that can affect workforce development and student postsecondary outcomes.
During the consent-agenda discussion, Trustee Jerry Atkins pulled the Brazosport College MOU for brief comment and requested the district provide an update at the next meeting on participation figures, completed hours and awarded associate degrees. "If we could just get that updated, I think that would be inviting for our community," Atkins said.
Following the request, Trustee Atkins moved approval of the MOU renewal; Trustee Joe Reinhart seconded. The board voted to approve the item; the chair announced the motion carried.
Trustees noted the program’s value and asked administration to include counts of student hours, completed associate degrees and other outcome metrics in the next report so the board can publicize the program’s results to the community.
The approval was procedural renewal of the existing collaboration; no funding change or new contract terms were described during the meeting.
