Brazosport ISD presented a construction update on ongoing bond projects, reporting near-completion work at athletic facilities and campus repairs funded by the 2019 bond program.
The update matters to students and families because the projects include the new Brazoswood pool and stadium improvements used for athletics and community events.
Howard, the district director of maintenance and construction, reported the Brazoswood pool site has underground sanitary sewer installation and completed under-slab plumbing for the pool equipment building; staff expected backfilling and compaction to finish barring weather delays. Howard said site mobilization for RASCO stacking lanes will begin once school is out and that new bleachers at Brazoswood have faced minor delays but should be finished soon.
At Velasco Elementary, Howard reported work to repair sanitary sewer piping and a roof overlay is complete and that kitchen serving lines and painted finishes have been restored so child nutrition can return equipment to the space. He said restroom repairs and other punch-list items remain under wrap-up.
The director provided aerial photos and renderings to the trustees and noted district-wide bond spending of about 91.8% as of the April 25 snapshot included in the presentation. No contracts or change orders requiring board action were presented at this update.
Trustees asked questions about specific materials and durability (for example, a Duralast membrane over an isolation board on the Velasco roof) and about the timeline for remaining items. The director said staff are evaluating cost-effective design options for one child-nutrition-related item and will return with a plan when ready.
The board received the update; no formal action was taken.
