The Warren County Conservation District presented its recent activities and budget to the fiscal court, highlighting youth education, cost‑share programs and local conservation efforts.
A representative for the conservation district (presented as Emily in the meeting) described staff and partnership capacity, noting four district employees plus two partner employees with the Natural Resources Conservation Service working under 80/20 agreements. The district outlined outreach programs including Envirothon competition teams (one team qualified to represent Kentucky in Alberta, Canada), Eco Explorers conservation camp for elementary students, and classroom grants for local teachers.
The district reported nearly $90,000 reinvested into the community through programs such as raised garden beds at a rehabilitation center, an eight‑year community garden at the housing authority with 42 plots serving 72 residents, additional water hydrants and a separate meter for garden pressure, and cover crop and soil test voucher programs. Staff said the district administers two state‑funded cost‑share programs that have distributed more than $100,000 to Warren County producers.
The presentation also noted partnerships with TVA and Lost River Cave for youth programming, and that district volunteers and coaches supported Envirothon teams competing against 36 teams statewide. The district emphasized hands‑on conservation education and assistance to producers and homeowners.
Magistrates thanked the district for its work; no budget vote or court action related to the presentation was taken at the meeting.
