Dr. Howard E. Fields III, introduced himself as the next superintendent of the Ferguson-Florissant R-II School District and told the community he plans to prioritize transparency, trust and connection.
“I am truly honored and excited to serve as your next superintendent,” Dr. Fields said, adding that the district’s “profound history of resilience and a commitment to equity and success” motivates his work.
Dr. Fields described local roots in the district and a long career in education. “My first college courses were right here at Florissant Valley, I completed my student teaching in the district, and my wife Nancy is not only a proud graduate of Ferguson Florissant but also a former teacher here,” he said. He said he brings “nearly two decades of experience in education and leadership.”
In his remarks, Dr. Fields said he plans to connect directly with teachers, staff, families and students. “Over the coming weeks and months ahead, I'm looking forward to connecting with each of you, our teachers, staff, families, and especially our students,” he said.
The remarks were introductory; no formal board action, hiring vote, contract details or policy decisions were announced during this address. The speaker framed the comments as the start of a collective effort to strengthen schools and community relationships rather than as a list of immediate policy changes.
Dr. Fields repeatedly emphasized partnership and student-centered leadership, saying, “When a group of people come together, keep students at the center, and lead with purpose, great things happen.” He closed by thanking the community for the welcome and expressing eagerness to begin work in the district.
The address did not specify an implementation timeline, details of any transition plan, compensation, or the administrative steps that led to his status as the next superintendent.
