The council voted May 20 to move AB 25-051 — the proposed amendment to the interim city administrator employment contract — to the next council work study for further discussion.
Lisa Escobar, Administrative Services Director, explained that the original interim contract included a provision allowing a mutual extension if needed. She said staff had retained an executive search firm and scheduled final interviews for June 5. “This amendment would extend Bob’s contract no more than July 25 or sooner once a city administrator is on board,” Escobar said, explaining the extension would accommodate a candidate’s notice period if an offer is accepted.
Council members expressed questions about the recruitment timeline and asked for a work study to discuss outstanding concerns. Mayor Pro Tem Mark Jocelyn moved to move the agenda bill to the next work study to allow fuller council discussion; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
Council did not act on the proposed amendment at the May 20 meeting; the item will be discussed at the next scheduled work study, where staff will provide recruitment timeline details and the proposed contract amendment language.
