The Fort Atkinson City Council on May 20 approved a library server replacement project with Ignitec at a cost not to exceed $10,634.50, Library Director Lippert told the council.
Lippert said library staff identified the need because the existing server was installed in 2018 and technology vendors generally recommend replacement every five to ten years. "Ignitec currently provides our monthly tech service at the library," Lippert said, and the Ignitec estimate of $10,634.50 was lower than an alternate quote from Taylor Computer Services. Lippert said the library board reviewed and approved moving forward with the project on May 12 and also approved using the library trust fund to reimburse the city "by state statute. The library board is exclusively in control of library fund, once it's been allocated to the library fund."
Lippert noted the library had budgeted $14,000 in the 2025 CIP for the server replacement; both vendor quotes came in under that budgeted amount. The council moved, seconded, and approved the purchase by voice vote. The staff recommendation and council approval followed the city's financial-stability policies and the library board's authorization to use library trust funds for reimbursement under state statute.
